Special Features Directory

In addition to our regular feature posts showcasing the retail sights throughout Florida, the My Florida Retail blog also has some special posting series appear from time to time. Here's an explanation of MFR's special features, in addition to a directory of all the different posts within those categories:

Florida is a big state, and trust me, we have plenty to cover here, but from time to time the blog's contributors get the taste to travel beyond the Florida border and see what we're missing out on in the Sunshine State. Where Publix stores become fewer and farther apart, the Beyond My Florida Retail feature brings readers of the blog a taste of different stores located throughout the country - from grocery stores to malls to discounters and everything in between, here's where we've gone Beyond My Florida Retail:
Restaurants of one kind or another pop up on MFR often enough, either for their unique architecture, outdated design, or past life as a long-gone chain (among many other reasons). Unlike a typical post where we feature just the building, Dining with AFB & Friends posts go a bit deeper for a full dining experience alongside our usual servings of history and documentation. Whether it be a dying concept, a rare to Florida chain, or a unique experience due to a building's past life or unusual design, Dining with AFB & Friends is like dinner and a post! Here's where we've dined so far on MFR:

Along the Florida road, there's plenty to see. While the contributors of the blog travel the Florida road to bring you coverage of the most interesting retail establishments in the state, there's a lot more out there that's peaked our interest as well. From other historical sights, roadside attractions of past and present, bridges, and the actual road itself, Along the Florida Road posts bring you a taste of Florida from outside of our usual retail realm (although a retail tie-in is possible with many of these posts). So sit back, relax, and enjoy a nice ride down the Florida road with these posts:

A lot of chains have come and gone from Florida, some attempts more famous than others. The same goes for various buildings and malls as well, many of which faded into obscurity years ago. Lost Histories of Floridian Retail brings us an in-depth look at chains that expanded and contracted from Florida with rarely a mention anymore, as well as buildings and malls from the past that most people may not remember. You can dig up these histories that could have fallen victim to time in these MFR posts (and special thanks to MFR contributor Retail Retell for the above graphic!):

Are you curious about the various chains that once called Florida home? To explore those chains in more detail, the My Florida Retail Info Database (previously the standalone AFB Florida Retail Database) provides you with tables of data, profiling the individual locations of chains that once called Florida home. To see where individual locations may have been near you, the database posts are a great start. To see what information we have so far, here are the databases currently complied for your enjoyment:
