Big Lots Store Closures 2024 - The Florida Locations

The Big Lots store located at 11230 South Orange Blossom Trail in Orlando is one of the 11 Florida Big Lots locations announced for closure in July 2024. 15 more closures throughout the state would be announced on August 2nd.

A quick post for everyone tonight - as you may have heard, Big Lots announced recently that they're in pretty deep financial troubles, warning investors of a potential bankruptcy. As part of trying to hold off or stall a bankruptcy filing, Big Lots announced the closure of 35 to 40 stores in 2024 per their official statement quoted in that linked article, however, it appears the number of stores targeted for closure at the moment is much higher than that. From what I've found, it was revealed that 11 Floridian Big Lots stores are closing at this time, with multiple closures announced in additional states as well. While Big Lots has not published a complete cohesive list of closures, closing stores have been tagged on the company's store locator. Going through the 106 Florida stores listed on the website, these were the 11 closings I found announced in July 2024 - a smattering of small, older stores and some stores only a few years old:

If you want to check on the status of any Big Lots stores elsewhere, you can use Big Lots' store locator here. Click on a state and then the city to find the store details page, and if a location is closing, there will be an orange banner at the top of the store's detail page that looks like this:

UPDATE 7/20/2024 - Retail Adventures put together a list of all the closing Big Lots stores on the store locator at the moment right now, which you can view here. It's a lot more than 35-40 locations like I though, with a lot of stores closing along the West Coast.

In the coming months we'll have to see how Big Lots fares and how many other closings we may find. These closures come on the heels of another nationwide closure wave Big Lots held last year, which took out the stores in North Naples, Tampa's Britton Plaza, Casselberry, and Seminole (which are the 4 I know of - there may have been additional closures on top of those last fall). Additionally, if I missed any closing stores from the current list please let me know and I'll add them in. One thing is for sure, this year has been a tough year for store closures in Floridian retail! We'll keep you posted on closures here on MFR, not just with Big Lots, but also our running list of Winn-Dixie to Aldi conversions - the most complete source of those on the web.

That's all the news I have for now, so until the next post,
